I am finding it hard to find ANY sales assistant job vacancies in retail in London. What's the secret? Is it really true you have to have connections there? Any advice? I LOVE fashion and know it would be the job for me if only I could apply for one! :-(
Thanks in advance

Hi,I'm working at h&m in london. have to say that it was really hard to get there. i got there just because i have a friend working there and she brought my application form straight to the manager.

I've also tried everything before(to get a retail job) but it seems to me that if u dnt have friends who r working in retail u just have to keep on trying.

Loads of shops do internet application, try that.some of my friend succeed in that way.

and then try the website like:

www.retailchoice.co.uk

or:

jobsinretail.co.uk

or:

retailcareers.co.uk

Or there is one more thing: try and go from store to store and ask them if there r any free vacancies

good luck, i know it's hard x

A friend of mine was in the same situation. She ended up taking a retail job with a big company just outside of London, then was able to apply successfully for an internal transfer.

Find a company you like and accept that you may have to work outside of London for a bit. You will probably need the experience before going there anyway. It shows you have commitment as well.

I suggest that you either find a job and gain experience and keep your eyes open for jobs in london or try and get some voluntary work in a retail enviroment in london then you have the experience failing that, just look on www.jobcentreplus.co.uk

You said if only you could apply.Does this mean you haven`t applied for any?If yes,why do you say you are finding it hard?Retail jobs are all over the place and for fashion you need to be well-presented,well-spoken and possess UK experience. If you have these,i don`t see why you shouldn`t get a position.I don`t believe the crap about "connections."Whom do you need to be connected to anyway?!

try looking up the shops website. They usually have a job vacancies page. Otherwise look up the job centre. http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/index.html

there are no secrets you just have to sell yourself to the manager. go in looking fab ask for the manager and give them a copy of your CV. tell them that you have always had a love of their product and that you have a flair for communication and selling. start one end of oxford street and work your way down. try fenwick of bond street its a department store. goodluck.
